A goat with two heads that eats from both mouths has surprised its owners after it was born at a Wisconsin farm.
As Jocelyn Nueske of the Nueske family farm located in Wittenberg explained, they have had hundreds of farm animals but have never before seen one born with two heads.
According to Jocelyn, who is in charge of milking the goats, she was “very shocked” when a goat with two heads, two mouths, and four eyes popped out of its mother as it was assisting it in giving birth.
“I noticed that the mother was having troubles having her second baby, which was completely normal. I started to assist her and I was very confused at first but then I realized the heads were attached and I was very shocked. It had four legs, two ears, four eyes and two noses,” the woman recalled.
“We have been milking goats for six years and never had anything like this. We usually have around 700 babies born each year and nothing like this has ever happened until now.”
After the unusual birth, the goat was named after the Roman god Janus who is typically depicted with two faces.
While the majority of creatures born with two heads, which are a result of an incompletely split embryo, die before or soon after their birth, Janus continues to defy the odds.
In one video shared by the family, the goat is seen attempting to stand on its feet and walk with the help of Jocelyn.
“We’re not too sure about the survival rate. We’re just doing the best we can to keep him strong and healthy, and hoping for the best,” the owner added.
“We are a very caring family farm, we try our best to help any animal we can. We had never seen anything like it before.”
