A woman who was afraid of dogs ever since she was bitten has adopted a shelter pooch that was scared of people to overcome her fear.
As 51-year-old teacher Teresa Hwang, also known as @ketophoria on TikTok, revealed in her video, she had been afraid of dogs after being bitten on two occasions when she was younger.
In an attempt to get over her past and overcome her fears, Hwang adopted Boo the dog who was afraid of other people.
“My fear dissolved as I realized he was more afraid than I was,” the teacher wrote in her video. As she added, Boo would often hide and cower in fear whereas he didn’t like to be touched.
Over time and plenty of ‘baby steps,’ however, Boo started trusting his new owner and the two became inseparable.
“Sometimes, I still can’t believe I have a dog, much less love one as much as I love Boo. I tell people he’s like the son I never had,” Hwang said in an interview with Bored Panda.
“I don’t just love him because he loves and needs me. I love him for who is, exactly as he is, for all he has overcome and for the joy he has brought into my life.”
Opening up about her past incident, Hwang told Bored Panda that she was bitten by dogs twice when she was younger, once at the age of ten and the second time at the age of 20.
It wasn’t until she met Boo that the elementary school teacher decided to give dogs another chance and open up her heart – a decision that changed her life for the better forever.
