For those who are running out of ways to keep their children amused without involving gadgets, this DIY hack might be the best thing you’ve been looking for.
A 26-year-old mom from Fife, Scotland made an outdoor kitchen set for her son Lucas and spent only £10 or $12!
Sheryn Potts shared how she managed to put the adorable structure together for a small amount of money.
In an interview with the Metro, the single mom said she started by painting leftover wooden pallets then cut one in half to make the basis of the play area. She then attached another plank of wood to the back to create the counter top.
The DIY fan then made a hole in the counter for the basin, used leftover pallets to make shelves, and turned an old rake handle into a towel rack.
The only things she bought are containers and miniature pots.
“The total cost was around £10 because I had all the accessories lying around the house or in my cupboards,” Sheryn told Metro.
“But realistically if someone was to build their own they would need two pallets and spare wood for the counter top, wood paint, and the tools to be able to put it all together such as a saw, a drill, screws etc.”
Her 16-month-old Luca loved his mother’s surprise for him. “As a single parent on their own I always try to go above and beyond for Luca as he’s such a special little boy,” Sheryn continued.
“I love doing these little projects for him, it’s more personalised and unique than buying something in the shops and you feel a real sense of achievement building something from nothing.”
