Actor, producer, writer, and singer Idris Elba has suggested that the entire world should undergo a one-week quarantine on a yearly basis to remember the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
As the 47-year-old actor, who was named the Sexiest Man Alive of 2018 by People, expressed, remembering the pandemic, and each other, would serve as a reminder “that the world doesn’t tick on your time.”
“You know, everyone’s sort of feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval,” Elba said in an interview with Associated Press.
“I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time. Remember each other. I really do.”
The Luther actor then went on to compare the quarantine to hibernation.
“I think it’s … other species use it. It’s called hibernation. But it does remind you that the world doesn’t tick on your time,” he told Associated Press.
Previously, Elba has opened up about the coronavirus pandemic and revealed he believes that the global calamity was caused by the actions of the human race.
As the 47-year-old star expressed, he thinks that our world is responding with a pandemic because we damaged it.
“One of the upsides of this whole drama is that we are forced to think together as a race. Our world has been taking a kicking. We have damaged our world and it’s no surprise that our world is reacting to the human race,” Mr. Elba told Oprah in a video call.
“It is no surprise that a virus has been created that is going to slow us down, and ultimately make us think differently about our world and ourselves.”
