The ongoing lockdown might have restricted people to their homes – but it couldn’t keep their creativity from going loose and making day for millions around the world.
A few days back, Los Angeles’ J. Paul Getty Museum challenged art lovers to recreate their favorite masterpieces using at least three things from their homes and send the photos over to them.
And as you can guess, the response was unbelievable, with people of all ages from all corners of the world recreating art pieces in the most hilarious way possible.
The museum got thousands of submissions and they’re still coming, a representative for the museum told Bored Panda. “They keep coming! More than 100 a day,” she said.
“The online challenge has reached many people around the world who may not be in a position to visit Los Angeles or Getty,” the rep added. “We hope they’ll be inspired to come when they get a chance.”
In fact, the museum has “lost count” of the photos they have received, Annelisa Stephan, who is the assistant director for digital content strategy at the museum, told Bored Panda.
“In addition to the ones posted publicly, there have been hundreds and hundreds more DM’d to us!
“We didn’t expect such a reaction in our wildest dreams—we thought a few people might enjoy the activity, but it clearly struck a chord!”
“We’ve received creative responses from the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia,” Annelisa added.
“We’ve also been thrilled to see kids of all ages getting into the act, and high school teachers organizing their art history students to incorporate the challenge into their classwork.
“It’s a great way to look at and learn about art while being creative with constraints.”
Without further ado, let’s present some of the best recreations of famous artworks, all of which were originally shared on Reddit. Scroll down and enjoy!
