A young man and a father-of-one took his own life as he was left unable to see his family and friends amid coronavirus lockdown.
21-year-old Red Gale from the UK was discovered lifeless at his home shortly after opening up about his self-isolation struggles to his mother.
As mum Polly revealed, her son didn’t see a way out as he was left unable to see his child and without a “huge support system” that his friends provided.
“He had so many friends and family who cared about him but when the rules started he lost that huge support system,” Red’s sister, 26-year-old Autumn, said.
As the young woman added, lockdown restrictions made her brother struggle more because he no longer had friends and family “who cared about him” by his side.
“We tried really hard to take the pain away from him but he struggled,” Autumn added.
According to the heartbroken sister, her little brother was a talented singer and a “loyal” and “thoughtful” person who’d been struggling with mental health for years.
“He had been struggling with his mental health for a couple of years and was let down so many times. His friends and family, we were all fighting for him but he couldn’t do it anymore and gave up the fight,” Autumn said.
As the sister explained, things got worse after the lockdown was put in place and Red no longer received the support he needed.
“He was let down – we reached out to services, GPs, hotlines and everything but as soon as the pandemic started it felt like he was being passed around and that they closed the doors on him. Everything was about the virus,” she added.
After the 21-year-old’s tragic death, his mother paid him a tear-jerking tribute.
“You had a soft, warm and loving heart. A heart that would fiercely protect the vulnerable, because you understood how it felt,” she expressed.
“You lived with a wounded heart for far too long and I wished everyday that the universe would protect you to heal that beautiful heart of yours.”
