This is a heart-wrenching moment an elderly man has picked up his beloved wife’s ashes through his car window after strict social distancing guidelines amid coronavirus outbreak prevented him from entering the local crematorium office.
Jim Harris was photographed in front of the All-States Crematorium in Colorado to pick up the ashes of his late wife, Judy.
Staff Meridee Kennedy greeted the elderly man who wound down his car window. They greeted each other wearing gloves and mask, and Mr. Harris looked emotional as he received his wife’s ashes.
He signed some paperwork before clutching the wooden box as he looked at it with evident tears in his eyes.
One internet user commented: “My sincere condolences to this poor man and all who are losing loved ones during this time. I can’t imagine the pain of not being able to say goodbye bedside, and also a memorial.”
Another wrote: “My father passed away 2 days ago and my mother is ill. I cannot console her and there will be no funeral until all my siblings can fly out safely. It is very hard. I just pray he will be able to make it through this tough time. I have had to learn to be very strong and put my feelings aside to try to make it through these times.”
A third shared: “Awww, bless him. Poor man. Hard days for him made harder by being unable to be with family, church members, friends. Just heartbreaking.”
New social distancing rules have changed the way people say goodbye to their loved ones and grieve as funeral parlors and crematoriums restrict access and wakes and burials are now held online.
