The writer of the hit TV shows The Stranger and Safe has recently confirmed that another series based on one of his books ‘The Woods’ is about to be released on Netflix.
Harlan Coben shared the teaser of the new series on his Twitter, revealing that it will not be less thrilling than his previous two dramatized novels.
The new season will be made available on the streaming service from June 12.
With the same name as of the book, The Woods will feature the story of four teenagers who were lost in the woods many decades ago.
The upcoming series, financed by the Polish Film Institute, will feature two different time frames: 1994 and 2019.
The synopsis reads: “Paul Copeland’s sister went missing 20 years ago. Now raising a daughter alone, Cope balances family life with a career as a prosecutor.
“But when a homicide victim is found with evidence linking him to Cope, the well-buried secrets of the past are threatening everything.
“Is this body one of the campers who disappeared with his sister?
“Could his sister be alive…? Confronting his past, Cope must decide what is better left hidden in the dark and what truths can be brought to light.”
Speaking of how he was feeling on the dramatization of his another book, the writer said: “I’m so proud to be teaming up with this incredible cast and crew from Poland – and helping introduce their brilliant work to Netflix’s global audience.”
Director of International Originals at Netflix, Michael Azzolino, also claimed that he was very excited about the upcoming series.
He said: “We are excited to announce that our second original series for Poland will be an adaptation of Harlan Coben’s dual timeline mystery The Woods.”
Azzolino added that ATM Grupa has chosen a “top notch team of producers, writers and directors” so that the “gripping tale of innocence lost and the power of redemption” could be filmed exactly like it was imagined by the writer.
Shedding more light on the mysterious six-part series, director Leszek Dawid explained: “The Woods is a story full of secrets – a story you will want to follow.
“Try as hard as you might to bury unresolved issues from the past, but one day they will find their way back to you anyway.”
Describing how every moment of the series will leave its viewers in shock and chills, Dawid said: “What I find fascinating is the way the film deals with the idea of a carefree adolescence.
“Looking back at the time in your life when you lived your most beautiful but, at the same time, your most atrocious experiences. Learning the truth.
“You cannot go any further without doing that.”
