An inspirational centenarian who survived through the Spanish Flu more than one hundred years ago has now also beaten COVID-19 according to her family.
102-year-old Josefa De Los Santos is a New Jersey grandma who has been recently released from the hospital after beating coronavirus.
“I have beaten the virus with the care of my family,” the Dominican Republic native expressed according to Telemundo 47.
The centenarian was admitted to the hospital in late April just days after her 102nd birthday. According to the family and the reports, the senior woman is believed to have developed pneumonia after contracting the killer bug.
“It is a miracle to see her return home and defeat COVID-19,” Madelyn Tejada, the centenarian’s granddaughter, said after the 102-year-old returned to her New Jersey home.
Meanwhile, another inspirational centenarian, who also survived two heart attacks and scarlet fever, has opened up about beating COVID-19.
Rose Heeley, 100, is a great-great-grandmother and one of a few centenarians with underlying health conditions who have beaten the killer bug and lived to share the stories of their lives.
As the gran’s family suggested, Rose is like a boomerang who always recovers and returns from anything life throws at her.
“Everything I’ve done, everything I’ve seen and what I’ve learnt has always been through hard work and sheer grit. I wasn’t about to let this beat me,” the determined lady said in an interview with The Sun after being declared COVID-19-free following 18 days of treatment.
“This coronavirus has been the worst thing ever. It was truly awful, frightening. But nothing bothers me.”
As 49-year-old Tracey Appleyard, Rose’s granddaughter, confirmed, the centenarian always “gets back up” from anything she faces.
“She’s been through it all — scarlet fever, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria and flu. She just gets back up,” she said.
According to Appleyard, Rose is their “little boomerang” who “never fails to come back with a vengeance.”
The 100-year-old was a preemie baby born in 1919. In spite of numerous health issues, including two heart attacks and knee replacements, Rose has always managed to pull herself back together and rock on.
“She swears by a cup of tea with a drop of whisky and a ginger nut every day,” Tracey explained.
