A friendly dolphin has gone viral after it came to light that the animal brings gifts from the sea to humans in exchange for delicious treats.
A frequent visitor of the Barnacles Cafe & Dolphin Feeding center in Queensland, Australia, Mystique is an adorable 29-year-old dolphin that appreciates interactions with people.
According to the reports, the dolphin brings various items including corals, seashells, and human-made items that had been under the sea for a long time to the surface as excited visitors gather at the center.
In return, Mystique, who allegedly hasn’t been trained to bring gifts, receives fish treats.
As the staff suggested, the dolphin must have an entire collection of sea gifts stashed somewhere nearby because he can bring them up one after another.
“He gets under it [and] if he drops it too far out, or we say ‘come on, that’s not good enough,’ then he gets underneath it and brings it to us,” Lyn McPherson, a volunteer at Barnacles Cafe & Dolphin Feeding, said in an interview with ABC. “We swear he has a collection waiting to bring to us.”
While Mystique reportedly thought of delivering sea gifts to the surface on his own, the staff now reward his endeavors by feeding him fish treats.
As they suggested, Mystique is the only dolphin in his pod of seven to bring gifts to people. Nevertheless, another male dolphin sometimes joins him in hopes of getting some treats as well.
