Jake Paul, the brother of the equally infamous Logan Paul, a breakout from YouTube has been seen in an Arizona mall which was being looted on Saturday night.
Now the YouTuber is fervently denying that he has taken part in the whole vandalism process. Video that have come in on Sunday has Paul standing in the midst of the frenzy in Scottsdale. He has claimed he was taking part in the whole process, taking in the commemorative protest in honor of George Floyd as the rest of the nation’s metropolis was being upturned. The protests have gone violent with escalating tensions, as police and national guard forces have been dispatched across the nation.
Paul, 23, was seen filming the chaotic scene himself too: “To be absolutely clear, neither I nor anyone in our group was engaged in any looting or vandalism,” Paul said in a statement posted to Twitter.
He added in an Instagram story that police teargassed him and his companions during the protests.
Paul said: “I do not condone violence, looting or breaking the law. However, I understand the anger and frustration that led to the destruction we witnessed, and while it’s not the answer, it’s important that people see it, and collectively figure out how to move forward in a healthy way.”
Footage of Paul among the scenes of protestors looting was shared in a series of Instagram posts by Paul’s videographer, Andrew Blue.
Although the posts have since been deleted, they showed Paul walking through the mall as protestors began to act destructively.
Paul’s own social media posts included videos of police officers, who Paul repeatedly refers to in explicit and confrontational language. The videos do not make it appear Paul joined in with the others who were damaging the property, yet the negative social media reaction was swift.
In response to his critics, Paul denied that he participated in the looting, and tried to explain his actions in a post on his social media channels.Paul, whose brother Logan is also a YouTube star, has been involved in a number of controversies. In 2018, he was filmed using the N-word while rapping. He has been known to attract lawsuits as well following his public persona.
