George Floyd’s younger brother Terence told protestors that their “destructive unity” are overshadowing the memories of his brothers, and asked the violence to be stopped.

On Monday, a clearly emotional Floyd gave an interview on Good Morning America to address the nation.

The death of his brother has ignited one of the largest and vicious protests in a long time across America. Although most protests have been peaceful demonstrations, it has turned into what the media characterized as riots in several cities.

Terence described George as a “motivator” who always tried to find the good in life. Emphasizing that his brother was a fighter for peace, Terence said that the violence has eclipsed his brother’s memories and the underlying issues.

As the protest continues to its sixth day, police has reportedly arrested more than 4,100 protestors around the US as of this writing. At least three people have been killed.

In the same interview, Terence said that he fully , if not better, understood the anger that his brother’s death has caused. However, he urged that the anger be used as a force of positivity, to change the world and resolved the underlying issues rather than to be a flame of fury.

He went on to say that George would not have endorsed these violent outbreaks had he been alive. Terence also revealed that he is currently in Minneapolis, where the incident took place, although he usually resides in Brooklyn.

He shared his plans to go and visit the very spot where his brother was on the ground with Derek Chauvin’s knee on his neck. Terence explained that he wanted to connect with his brother once more in a spiritual way by visiting that particular spot.

Reverend Kevin McCall, who is the man sitting to the left of Terence Floyd in the picture above, said he and a few other activists will be together with Terence during his time in Minneapolis.

The reverend concurred with Terence, saying that calling for justice and being peaceful were not mutually exclusive options. He went on to say that Terence’s words are especially meaningful since the Floyds are the ones most impacted by the death of George.
