2020 has so far turned out be a series of unexpected and, frankly, tiring year so far.
From one of the worst global pandemics in modern history to increase racial tensions, it is no surprise that many people have deemed 2020 one of the worst years in recent memory.
However, there is always something to look for even in the darkest of times. More fans of the ever popular TV series “Friends”, they will be delighted to hear that the long-waited reunion may start filming as early as this August.
In an interview with The Wrap, series creator Marta Kauffman confirmed that as of now, the plans are to start shooting later this year in August. The reunion, which will include all major ‘friends’, was supposed to be on air this May but was postponed due to Covid-19.
Kauffman clarified that the two conditions that must be met for the schedule to go on ahead as planned is for the studio in Burbank to be open and that the dreaded second wave of outbreaks do not take place.
Earlier this year, the head of WarnerMedia had said the same – that the shooting for the reunion can hopefully take place in August as things start to improve. The reunion is set to be release on HBO Max, the streaming platform that was launched by WarnerMedia owned HBO.
Both creators of the show, Kauffman and David Krane, are scheduled to appear in the reunion together. The meeting is set to take place in Stage 24 of the Warner Brothers studio, where the original show was filmed at.
The news of a reunion that so many fans have clamored for was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, who in November said that the reunion will be filmed and shown via HBO Max to promote the platform at its launch.
Although the planning was thrown off due to the pandemic, HBO Max still remains the only legitimate online platform where fans can relive the entire show. WarnerMedia managed to outdo Netflix, betting a reported $425 million over 5 years for the rights to stream the show.
It is no surprise that both WarnerMedia and Netflix, who spent between $80 million and $100 million for the show, are shelling out large sums to stream Friends, as it still remains one of the most watched shows of all time.
