A 20-year-old soldier who took his own life after Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen’s body was found has been identified as Spc.
Aaron Davin Robinson.
Robinson shot himself when police officers tried to contact him after he fled Fort Hood.
An estranged wife of a Fort Hood soldier, 22-year-old Cecily Aguilar, was arrested on suspicion she assisted Robinson to dismember and dispose of the victim’s body. If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
20-year-old Guillen was last seen at the Texas Army base on April 22 after telling her family she was sexually harassed by a sergeant.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Killeen police, and US Marshals tracked down the key suspect who had left his post and as they tried to catch him, he decided to shoot himself, according to reports.
The Killeen Police department said, “As officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect displayed a weapon and discharged it toward himself. The suspect succumbed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
The family’s lawyer, Natalie Khawam, says Guillen was killed with a machete. She was then dismembered and buried after the culprits tried to burn her.
Fort Hood CID Special Agent Damon Phelps said any interactions or relationship between Guillen and Robinson could not be confirmed due to the ongoing investigation.
Phelps dismissed the accusations of Guillen’s family that she was harassed and felt unsafe before her disappearance, telling them there was no ‘credible information’ to support their claims.
According to army officials, they did not see any evidence of Guillen being sexually harassed after conducting an investigation but asked anyone with information to speak up.
Atty. Khawam claimed Guillen told the suspect she was going to report him then the man took a hammer and started ‘bludgeoning her head over and over.’
The area where Guillen was killed was cleaned up and the body was placed in a container. The soldier then picked up a woman and they tried to burn the body before dismembering it with a machete. The remains were then cemented and buried.
Texas Equeesearch’s Tim Miller told KHOU: “It appears he buried her, put lime on her, mixed up concrete, put that over her, put dirt over her, rocks and stuff.”
