A generous woman has gone viral after it came to light that she has been cooking free meals for the frontliners, the elderly, and other people in need amid the pandemic.
45-year-old Michelle Brenner is a selfless Washington state resident who suffered a job loss due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With lots of time on her hands, she decided to put it to good use and start delivering supplies and groceries to other residents in Gig Harbor.
After coming across a senior man who hadn’t eaten a warm homemade meal in a long time, however, Brenner decided to start baking lasagnas for those in need, including frontliners and the elderly.
According to the reports, the kind woman has so far already cooked far over 1,200 lasagnas and fed plenty of hungry mouths.
“I knew it was my time in my life to give back to the people who paved life’s path for me to have the 45 years of life that I’ve had,” Brenner said in an interview with CNN.
As the former retail worker explained, requests started pouring in as soon as she had announced on Facebook that she’s willing to make homemade lasagnas free of charge for people in need.
And so, Brenner spent the stimulus check she received from the government to buy ingredients before taking to the kitchen and rolling up her sleeves.
“The whole point of this is to spread that sense of community wherever we can through the comfort of lasagna. So, I don’t want anybody to feel disincluded because reality is there are people out there who can’t afford a dollar,” she added.
After her story went viral, Brenner soon received financial support from other Good Samaritans who donated money so she could buy more ingredients and bake more warm meals.
Pitching in was also Gig Harbor Sportsman’s Club who offered Brenner their commercial kitchen where she can bake many more lasagnas.
“I made lasagna 90 days in a row without a day off and it never felt like a job to me. I always wanted to be there,” Brenner said in an interview with Today.
“I healed myself by getting to know my community. I fixed things (inside of myself) that I couldn’t have paid a doctor or therapist to fix. I just feel so fortunate for the experience.”
