A male kangaroo was seen grieving over the body of his mate and joey after they were hit by a car.
Wildlife rescuers have captured the heartbreaking moment the heartbroken kangaroo was stroking the lifeless body of his partner. The photo shows sadness in the eyes of the animal grieving in Yarra Glen, Australia.
Volunteers Pam Roxon and Vicki Lloyd-Smith removed the joey from the pouch but the baby kangaroo passed away in a shelter.

Ms. Roxon and Ms. Lloyd Smith, wildlife shelter volunteers, took the photo and tried to save the baby kangaroo but the animal died at a nearby shelter.
Nikki Sutterby, the President of the Australian Society for Kangaroos, confirmed that marsupials care greatly for their family.
She told the Herald Sun: “They are regularly witnessed in the wild and in care actively protecting their family, showing deep loyalty and affection and distress and grief when they die.”
In 2016, another kangaroo was seen carrying his injured female companion.
Photographer Evan Switzer said at that time: “I saw the male pick up the female, he looked like he was just trying to get her up and see what was wrong with her … It was a pretty special thing, he was just mourning the loss of his mate.”
One internet user commented: “I can never understand drivers who hit an animal and continue driving without stopping to help it or move it to the side of the road. They have taken its life or injured it and kids may see it but they don’t seem to have the humanity to care.”
Another wrote: “His eyes are full of emotion.”
A third added: “The eyes says it all.”
