Last September, Céline Dion performed for the “Stand Up To Cancer” concert that aired on ABC.
She sang a brand new song dedicated to three men in her family who all lost their lives to cancer.
“Recovering” was written by singer/songwriter Pink and given to Dion as a token of love and support. The song depicts the emotionally grueling journey of living with grief and rediscovering hope. Dion dedicated the performance to her late husband René Angélil, who died at the age of 74 from throat cancer.

Just a few days after her husband passed, Dion’s brother died of brain, lung, and throat cancer. She also lost her father, Adhémar Dion, to cancer back in 2003.
Just before performing this song for the first time, Dion dedicates it to her husband: “I miss René every day and the loss will now be a part of my life.”
The song begins….
I am recovering…
The faith of a child
By a part of my heart
I was reckless and wild
I am recovering
A hope that I lost
A part of my soul
That paid the cost…
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The immense weight of the loss Dion had experienced was seen in her face and heard in her voice.

When this amazing song is over, Dion turns to the screen behind her where the three men’s faces are projected. She is immediately moved to tears. The audience, feeling her sorrow, stands to their feet in love and support of this incredible woman.
“Recovering” will be on Dion’s upcoming 2017 album.
