This is an emotional moment a couple engaged for ten years finally tied the knot in a hospital days after the husband was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
When 68-year-old Malcolm Eyles experienced chest pains last week, he was taken to a hospital where scans revealed that he had terminal cancer.
After hearing the devastating news, the couple decided to tie the knot.
Staff at the hospital helped the couple arrange the ceremony, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as Malcolm and 67-year-old Maureen Blackwell exchanged their vows.
The room was decorated with flowers, hearts, and a banner saying ‘Just Married.’
Maureen caressed her husband’s face and he started to break down in tears as she put the wedding ring on his finger.
Nurses and other staff gathered around the hospital bed to be a part of the wonderful ceremony.
As soon as the registrar announced that they were husband and wife, emotional Maureen leaned over and kissed her husband.
“’Congratulations to the couple for finally tying the knot after ten years of engagement,” a spokesperson for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said.
One internet user commented: “This is heartbreaking. Wishing them all the best.”
Another wrote: “Such a tragic story. I know this may sound romantic but for me I think why did you not marry all this time instead only when you are dying? It’s important that we learn to live life to the fullest and not wait until disaster strikes. I wish you all the best.”
