Grieving family members have been left even more heartbroken after discovering a wrong body in their father’s coffin.
Maria Vasquez and Susana Montelongo hired Santana Funeral Directors after their father, Natividad Torres Cordova, passed away.
They asked the funeral home to dress their father in his favorite soccer jersey for the open casket service.
But the sisters, along with their family members, were shocked to find out that the funeral parlor put the wrong body in the coffin.
In an interview with Click2Houston, Montelongo said: “To say our last goodbyes to our father, it was supposed to be perfect.
“He gave us his all, so we wanted to give him everything, perfect.
“Instead of having good memories of a perfect funeral for our father, because he deserved the best, we are having a nightmare.”
Vasquez also told the news outlet: “I went up to the casket to tell my dad ‘I love you’ before anybody came in, and I was touching the wrong person, with my dad’s clothes. They ruined everything.”
The grieving family confronted the funeral parlor about the heartbreaking mishap.
Cordova’s body was then put into the casket and sent to the church for the funeral service. But his family says his body wasn’t prepared for the burial.
Santana Funeral Directors boss Arnold Alanis said he ‘feels sorry’ for the family members.
He told Click2Houston: “Once and a while, there might be an issue with a family but we’re not at liberty to discuss that.
“I feel sorry for them, they’re in grief right now with loss of a loved one. We strive real hard to make sure the family’s needs are met.”
The funeral parlor offered the family a full refund but Vasquez claims the staff did not offer any remorse or compassion.
“The funeral director literally rushed out, left us there to handle everything on our own,” she alleged.
The family are now looking for a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the company.
