BlackBerry was once the pinnacle of mobile technology, with its physical keyboards and Twitter culture creating a tech-savvy consciousness for its users.
However, as the day and age of wider and higher resolution screens, it had seemed the end was nigh for BlackBerry – and it was really the case after 2016 when the company stopped mobile phone productions altogether. But after a tumultuous decade of the malicious cycle of necromancy, BlackBerry phones are back in the game, all completely in its own character, with the keyboard intact despite some changes.
BlackBerry, or the company that we hail as its maker back in the days, has given out its titular/production licences to other companies, and now it has been passed on to OnwardMobility, an Austin, Texas, company.
According to the company, the new BlackBerry will run Android, an assured 5G connectivity, and that the first products would come out some time during first half of 2021. Also, Foxconn’s subsidiary company FIH will physically assemble and produce the new BlackBerry.
Other than that, specific details are yet to be disclosed.
As BlackBerry was known not only for its quirky Qwerty keyboards but for a tight, ironclad mobile security, the company is hoping it will break into the niche market, with some success.“Enterprise professionals are eager for secure 5G devices that enable productivity, without sacrificing the user experience,” said Peter Franklin, CEO of OnwardMobility, in a statement. “BlackBerry smartphones are known for protecting communications, privacy, and data.”
As Samsung, Apple and Huawei are all dominating the mobile phone industry, the craze BlackBerry once brought onto itself seems less likely to be realized.
As a reminder, BlackBerry had its peak in 2012, with more than 80 million active users, also having the cultural significance of giving off a “I’m busy and I’m letting you know it” vibe.
The BlackBerry’s own software eventually died out with the gradual demise of the company moving on through in 2016, as the main base system is Android with their own security activated by layering another cyber-security software on top.
Although the phone-making stopped altogether as they focused more on enterprise protection and automobile system programming, the remainder of their merchandise did get produced by the company TCL.
