A six-year-old boy was shot by his neighbor who allegedly tried to unload her boyfriend’s gun when the firearm discharged and sent a bullet flying into the home of their neighbors.
The tragic incident occurred in Rosedale, Baltimore, where the authorities were dispatched to the Capella Court unit on Sunday morning after receiving a report of a shooting.
As the Baltimore County police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting at around 7 in the morning, they came across a 6-year-old boy who was allegedly shot somewhere in his lower body while sleeping.
After the child was sent on the way to a local hospital where he was treated for non-fatal injuries, the police discovered that the bullet came through the wall from the adjacent townhome.
Following the shooting, the detectives arrested the couple in the neighboring townhouse and identified them as 29-year-old Deyonna Charles and 28-year-old Corey Nash.
It is believed that the young boy was shot when Deyonna accidentally discharged her boyfriend’s gun while attempting to empty it.
After the couple’s arrest, the police charged Nash with illegal possession of a regulated firearm. As records show, Nash has an extensive criminal history consisting of charges of theft, burglary, and assault among others.
Meanwhile, the authorities have charged Charles with second-degree assault, discharging a firearm in a metropolitan area, and reckless endangerment.
