A judge from the US dismissed a speeding ticket of an elderly man for all the right reasons – and the clip of the incident is now doing the rounds on the internet.
The 96-year-old’s ticket was forgiven by the judge when it was revealed that the old fella had been looking after his son who suffers from cancer.
Judge Frank Caprio is already famous from ABC’s TV show Caught in Providence, and the television judge usually doesn’t show mercy for the fools and the wicked.
But he sure has a soft spot in his heart for deserving people like Coella.
Coella, 96, happened to have exceeded the speed limit in a school area, so he was charged with a ‘school zone violation.’ But the old man doesn’t always drive that way.
“I don’t drive that fast, Judge,” Coella told the judge. “I’m 96 years old and I drive slowly, and I only drive when I have to.”
The man then explained that he was trying to help out his cancer-stricken ‘handicapped’ son.
“I take him for blood work every two weeks because he’s got cancer,” he said, explaining that he was taking his son to the doctor that day.
After Coella explained the situation, Caprio narrowed down his eyes, as he usually does before revealing the fate of an accused. But he just had good news to deliver in this case.
Caprio said Coella is ‘a good man’, whose actions were ‘what America is all about.’
“Here you are in your 90’s, and you’re still taking care of your family,” the judge said. “That’s just a wonderful thing.”
When Coella revealed that his son was 63 years of age, a smiling Caprio quipped: “And Daddy’s still taking care of him, right?”
But then came the best moment of the day.
In a twist which is usually seen in movies and stuff, the judge introduced his own son to the old man, who happened to have been sitting at the back the entire time.
“You’re setting a bad example to my son – you’re putting a lot of pressure on me!” Caprio joked.
The judge then dismissed the case, wishing Coella and his son a good day.
