Avatar 2 live-action filming is reportedly “100% complete” whereas the live-action filming of the third installment of the popular movie is near its completion.
Speaking to Arnold Schwarzenegger, director and producer James Cameron confirmed that live-action filming of Avatar 2 is complete despite delays related to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a video conference with the former Governor of California, the Terminator filmmaker also revealed that the team is already “95% complete on Avatar 3.”
As Mr. Cameron told Schwarzenegger, they are “very lucky” to have chosen New Zealand for their production site due to the country’s successful battle against coronavirus.
“We’re 100% complete on Avatar 2 and sort of 95% complete on Avatar 3,” the producer said of live-action filming of the two science fiction movies.
“We’re very lucky in that we chose this as our production site years ago. We made the first film here in New Zealand and it turns out to be ranking first or second best country in the world for its COVID response.”
While the pandemic hit the production of Avatar hard, Cameron and co-producer Jon Landau were able to fly back to the country back in June to resume their work.
“We’re able to operate. We’re able to shoot and have a more or less normal life here. We were very fortunate, so I don’t see any roadblocks to us getting the picture finished, getting both pictures finished,” Cameron added.
As Disney confirmed back in July, the release of the upcoming Avatar movies has been rolled back for an entire year due to the pandemic.
While Avatar 2 is expected to hit the big screens in December 2022, Avatar 3 is set for release in December 2024.
