President Donald Trump was airlifted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after he and his wife, Melania Trump, tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Trump said Friday: “I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support. I’m going to Walter Reed hospital.
“I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure that things work out.”
The president showed a ‘thumbs up’ as he walked on his own to Marine One to be transported to Walter Reed hospital, where he is expected to remain for ‘a few days.’
According to the White House doctor, Trump was experiencing fatigue and the FLOTUS was coughing with a headache, the Washington Post reported.
White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah confirmed that despite hospitalization, the president hadn’t transferred power to VP Mike Pence.
Eric Trump wrote on Twitter that his father ‘is a true warrior.’ He also asked people to ‘join me in praying for his recovery.
“He will fight through this with the same strength and conviction that he uses to fight for America each and every day,” he wrote. “I ask you to join me in praying for his recovery. I have never been more proud of someone and what they have had to endure.”
Ivanka also called the president a ‘warrior’ and said he ‘will beat this.’ “I love you, Dad,” she added.
Melania, who wrote on Twitter that she has ‘mild symptoms,’ will remain quarantined in the White House.
Dr. David A. Nace, the director of medical affairs at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a geriatrics expert, said to the New York Times that the president’s symptoms may be more severe due to his failure to wear a mask. In addition, older people are at greater risk of becoming severely ill.
Trump’s 14-year-old son Barron, Ivanka and Jared Kushner tested negative for the virus.
