A schoolboy has been arrested after he brought three handguns to school.
The 12-year-old boy has been taken into custody after he reportedly brought three handguns to Lighthouse Christian School in Florida and showed the weapons to his classmates.
According to ABC Action News in Tampa, the teacher found two handguns and boxes of ammunition inside the boy’s lunchbox.
In addition to the two handguns, a loaded semi-automatic gun was also found in the 12-year-old boy’s possession.
The school principal, Troy Arnold, said that the student showed the handguns to his classmates that day.
Teachers also found disturbing drawings of a man outside the school carrying guns, surrounded by corpses.
This is not the first time the boy was involved in an incident involving guns, KENS reported.
His mother said that he had shot their family dog with a pellet gun.
She reportedly unlocked the gun safe for her uncle but accidentally left it unlocked. That’s when the boy found it open and he used the opportunity to take the weapons and show them to his classmates.
Principal Arnold told First Coast News: “The response to the teacher and all was very admirable, she did a great job of doing her job and diligent – that’s what it’s all about.
“Most of the time, it ends up there’s nothing much to it. So, this just happened to be one of those times when I’m thankful we found it.”
The student has been expelled from school and the incident was reported to the Department of Children and Family Services.
