Desiree Anzalone, the great-granddaughter of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, has passed away.
As the People magazine reported, model, singer, and photographer Desiree Anzalone died at her Connecticut home on September 27 after a long battle with breast cancer.
According to Desiree’s mother Julia, her 31-year-old daughter, who was named after her celebrity great-grandmother whose middle name was Desiree, passed away “peacefully.”
“Watching her slip away was just, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. No mother should have to watch that,” she expressed.
“She was so beautiful, just so so beautiful inside and out. She really, really reminded me a lot of my grandmother, more so than I.”
Desiree’s premature death follows after her brave 6-year battle with breast cancer. She was initially diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer back when she was just 25 years old.
Following double mastectomy and chemotherapy, Anzalone was in remission for years until her cancer returned in 2018. She was then diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer whereas the disease had already spread to her lungs, liver, and bones.
“What went wrong is she kept getting fluid around her heart. And then they kept doing surgeries and it would come back like two weeks later,” mom Julia explained.
While the family had hoped young Desiree would get to enjoy life for a few more years, her health continued to degrade rapidly and the mother and daughter, who were very close to each other, were forced to stay apart due to coronavirus fears.
“I wasn’t able to see her as much as I usually do because she was compromised and I didn’t want her getting sick in any kind of way,” the mother added.
As Julia also expressed, her daughter was passionate about raising breast cancer awareness besides also being a talented singer and photographer.
“She wrote songs. Very, very talented, smart, smart girl,” Julia said.
May she rest in peace.
