A baby boy was found abandoned outside a home in Queens with his umbilical cord still attached.
The baby boy, who was barely breathing, was found in critical condition at around 10 am outside of 107-20 126th Street in South Richmond Hill.
He was immediately taken to Jamaica Hospital and his 23-year-old mother was later arrested with charges pending, police said.
A neighbor, Elyte Surajeeli, said she was inside her home when she spotted the naked baby through a window. She immediately alerted the mother’s relative who was sitting in the front yard and asked her to call 911.
“I heard a little cry, like a little cat cry. And when I looked I said, ‘No, it’s a baby,’” Surajeeli expressed.
“I called her ( the mother’s relative) and I said, ‘Miss, hurry up, come to see what is in your yard there,’” Surajeeli recalled. “And when she came she start to scream and said, ‘Oh my God.’ I said, ‘Call 911. Don’t cry, don’t scream. Call 911 right away.’”
The baby’s mother reportedly went out of the house and wiped him with a towel. Cops arrived shortly and took the 23-year-old into custody.
“I know them to be very nice people, working class people. That’s why I’m shocked,” Surajeeli said.
“This is a person who goes out to work every day like everyone else. I don’t know what to think. Never in my life did I think I would see something like that.”
