Fishermen were left baffled when they found a rare albino baby shark with only one eye.
The ‘cyclops’ creature was one of the baby sharks found inside an adult shark, which had died after being trapped in nets.
When the fishermen opened the adult shark’s belly to remove its gut, they were shocked to find three babies inside – one of them was completely white.
In addition to its milky color, the baby shark had just one eye but its other body parts and fins were already developed.
29-year-old Andy said that the mother shark may have been pregnant with the rare creature when it accidentally got trapped.
“We found three babies inside its stomach, but one of them looked strange with only one eye. Its colour was strange too, like milk,” he shared.
Andy reported their discovery to the local marine office and handed over the creature, which was dead already lifeless when they found it.
In addition to albinism, the baby shark also had Cyclopia, a birth deformity that causes the embryo to form just one eye.
Another fisherman recently found a white shark while he was fishing with his friends.
50-year-old Jason Gillespie from Hampshire caught the all-white shark that measured around 3ft near the Isle of Wight in the UK.
“I’ve been fishing for 30 years and I’ve never seen one like that. Apparently it’s a condition where the pigment dies out of the skin colour,” Jason said.
“It’s similar to an albino, but they have red eyes generally. I caught it on Tuesday, off the Isle of Wight – what’re the chances? I have no idea. It’s the fish of a lifetime, one in a million,” he continued.
“I think generally if they lose their colour they struggle to survive because they don’t have the same camouflage and they can’t hunt as effectively and they get picked up by predators.
“We released her as quick as possible, she was only on the boat for less than a minute.”
