A pregnant woman was shot in front of her horrified family after two cars boxed her in.
19-year-old Sereinat’e Henderson was driving with her mother, brother, sister, and son when two cars suddenly appeared and boxed her in.
In an interview with KGO-TV, Henderson’s mother, Salima Wyrick, said: “It was a black car that pulled up behind us and a white car that pulled up on the side of us and the white car pulled up on the side of us and just opened up fire.”
The grieving mother said that 22 bullets struck the vehicle, and one hit the pregnant teen in the head.
Other family members managed to escape without being shot.
The 19-year-old was rushed to Highland Hospital in Oakland where she passed away.
Her cousin, Rainie Wooten, said to KRON: “Always make you smile, always happy to see you. Always wanted to be around and have fun. She was a young girl.”
Family and friends gathered and lit candles as they remembered Henderson.
The teen’s grandmother, Janice Marie Small, said to KGO that they want answers.
“They didn’t even care about her baby being in the car. She never bothered nobody. She never hurt anyone,” Small told KGO.
In an interview with Berkeleyside, Henderson’s mother-in-law said that that the teen and her son met when they were fourteen.
The couple were expecting their second child when Henderson was shot.
“She was a little thing but she had the biggest spirit,” the mother-in-law expressed. “It just doesn’t make sense. She just had her ultrasound yesterday.”
Wooten added: “Senseless murders just need to stop.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
