Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas jingle becomes the first Christmas song to top both the UK and US charts at the same time.
First released on the star’s 1994 Merry Christmas album, the famous song topped the Official UK Singles chart on Sunday.
Billboard also announced that the song, which reigned for three weeks in 2019, has returned to the No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.
The 50-year-old singer took to Twitter to share her excitement after sharing a holiday clip on Instagram.
“WOW! I truly wasn’t expecting this at all!!” Mariah wrote.
“Eternally grateful for the enduring success of this song. “I don’t want a lot for Christmas…” just wishing for a bit more JOY and some holiday spirit for all, especially this year. Merry Christmas! Love, MC.”
In 2019, Amazon Music shared a video in which the singer explained why the holiday season is very important to her.
“I have such an emotional connection to Christmas. And it wasn’t about the gifts,” she shared.
“It was just about the hopefulness of the holiday season and just feeling, like, in the spirit, and the need for me to express myself and make a song that made me feel happy at the holidays.”
Mariah added: “It’s grown in popularity over the years, and that’s the thing that’s amazing to me about this song.”
The O holy Night hitmaker also stars in a Christmas special for Apple TV+ with guests Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande.
They performed a new version of Mariah’s Oh Santa! and a mix of All I Want For Christmas.
One fan commented: “I’ve already listened to this song repeatedly over the last couple of weeks. It makes me happy!”
Another wrote: “It’s not even Christmas until you’ve danced inebriated around your tree to All I Want For Christmas.”
A third added: “I really like this song, puts me on the mood after a rather strange year.”
