A teen from Minnesota was mauled to death by a German Shepherd at their farm near Battle Lake.

Police officers from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office identified the teen as Dion Bush, 14. His body was discovered on a farm where his family breeds and raises big pooches.

In the report released by the sheriff’s office, the incident occurred Monday afternoon when the teen went into the yard of the family’s home to tend to the canines.

According to the Brainerd Dispatch, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Lt. Keith Van Dyke said that the teen’s father contacted the police when his son did not go back home.

Otter Tail Sherriff Barry Fitzgibbons said: “Due to a recent injury, the father was unable, he wasn’t mobile, so he wasn’t able to go and search on his own.”

Officers arrived at the scene and found Dion’s lifeless body in the yard. They also saw a 3-year-old Polish Long Hair Shepherd acting ‘extremely aggressive.’

The canine has since been euthanized at the request of the grieving family.

“We’re still trying to determine what would make the dog do that,” Fitzgibbons said.

The property is operated by the boy’s mother Jennifer Bush. The dog that attacked the boy had only arrived less than six months ago, officers said.

Board spokesperson Michael Crusan said: “We don’t have a record of (Jennifer Bush) being licensed as a commercial dog and cat breeder.”

Fitzgibbon said the teen was a freshman at Battle Lake High School.”

“It’s been a very challenging year for everybody, and it’s never easy to have to go to a situation like that. And the holidays just make it that much more tragic,” he expressed.
