An elderly woman living in a nursing home has melted millions of hearts after a video of her went viral on social media.
In the heartbreaking video shared on TikTok, the elderly woman can be seen hugging a tiger toy given to her by a nursing home carer.
The clip starts with Freda, believed to have dementia, already cuddling the plush toy with tears in her eyes.
“Beautiful! Where did he come from?” Freda can be heard asking.
“I found him at the store!” the carer replied before saying that she bought the plush toy for her as a Christmas gift.
“Well thank you,” Freda expressed. “I’ll never get anything like this, ever. He’s beautiful!”
But it is Freda’s final words that left many people heartbroken, as she tearfully says: “You see how much we miss loving somebody?”
The clip has been viewed more than 5 million times since it was shared on December 14.
People were quick to show their love for the elderly woman, with one person saying: “This is the sweetest lady ever.”
Another wrote: “All dementia patients should be given a teddy bear. They trigger natural maternal/paternal instinct and are very calming.
I bought one for my neighbour and she cuddled it, talked and sang to it, brushed its fur and pretended to feed it every day for 2 years before she passed away. She wouldn’t let it out of her sight and was cremated with it.”
A third shared: “That is beautiful. I understand what she is saying about being without somebody you love.”
Someone else added: “This touched my heart, thank you so much for sharing her happiness.”
