Adam Schiff suggested President Trump should never again receive an intelligence briefing as he spoke out on Face the Nation by CBS.
As the Democratic Representative and the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee insisted, Trump should not be trusted with intelligence briefings following the insurrection.
“There’s no circumstance in which this president should get another intelligence briefing, not now, not in the future,” Schiff said as he appeared on Face the Nation.
“I don’t think he can be trusted with it now and in the future, he certainly can’t be trusted.
“Indeed, there were, I think, any number of intelligence partners of ours around the world who probably started withholding information from us because they didn’t trust the president would safeguard that information and protect their sources and methods.
“And that makes us less safe.”
While the President’s term is swiftly coming to an end, Trump could still receive occasional intelligence briefings unless he is stopped by the Biden administration.
“My understanding is, former presidents are, not all the time but on a regular basis, given general intelligence briefings about the state of the world and threats to the country,” former FBI director James Comey explained as he appeared on The View by ABC.
Schiff’s call for Trump to be banned from intelligence briefings follows after Susan M Gordon, who served in the Office of the DNI as the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence until August 2019, suggested that Trump should no longer receive intelligence briefings after Biden takes over the White House.
“With this simple act — which is solely the new president’s prerogative — Joe Biden can mitigate one aspect of the potential national security risk posed by Donald Trump, private citizen,” Gordon wrote in an opinion column for The Washington Post.
