Andrea Grant and her brother were just children when an explosion caused by a gas leak tore through their home.
The two were severely burned, but managed to survive. Their bodies are covered in scars that they will wear for the rest of their lives.
As Grant got older, she was told that because of the scarring, she would never be able to carry a pregnancy to term. Her skin would not be able to stretch enough to accommodate a baby after four months.
Despite this, Grant became pregnant and surpassed the four month mark. She defied medical advice. She’s simply relied on lotion to keep her scarred skin elastic.

In celebration, she decided to bare her scars in a photo shoot with photographer Terrence Armand. She’s showed off her pregnant belly in defiance of beauty standards and the people who told her she would never be able to have a baby.
Her pictures proudly prove she’s more than just scars or a tragic story. She’s become a fierce advocate for burn victims like herself, creating a group called “Beyond Scars.”
