President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden’s move into the White House is finally completed after their dogs arrived and made their presence known by barking outside the Oval Office.
The first couple shared photos of their adorable German Shepherds, Major and Champ, playing around the White House on Monday morning.
A White House spokesperson said that Major – the first rescue dog to live in the White House – has been running around the South Lawn, while Champ – who was bought from a breeder in Pennsylvania – has been spending a lot of time in his bed in front of the fire.
The two pooches already feel at home as they were heard barking outside Biden’s Oval Office window as he signed an executive order to reverse the military’s transgender ban.
Champ was purchased from a breeder in 2008 and has enjoyed eight years of life in DC, having lived with the family at the vice presidential residence during former president Barack Obama’s term.
Major was rescued by the Bidens from the Humane Society in Delaware in 2018. He is making history as the first rescue to live in the presidential residence.
Delaware Human Association said that the pooch was “from a litter of German Shepherd pups that were surrendered and not doing well at all.”
DHA also took to Facebook to celebrate the news of Major’s adoption, writing: “Not only did Major find his forever home, but he got adopted by Vice President Joe Biden & Dr. Jill Biden!
“The Bidens have gotten to know Major while fostering him and are now ready to make the adoption official. Best of luck and thank you for being one of our Friends for life!”
In November last year, CBS Sunday reported that the Bidens were hoping to find a feline friend for their dogs.
“President-elect @JoeBiden and his wife @DrBiden won’t just be bringing their German Shepherds, Major and Champ to the White House. The Bidens tell us exclusively that soon they’ll be joined by a cat. #sundaypets,” the Twitter post reads.
