Virtual reality technology is often used to create immersive experiences that can entertain and educate users.
Aside from its popular gaming use, VR is now applied in a variety of industries, such as military, medicine, architecture, and others.
In South Korea, a TV show uses VR technology to reunite people with their deceased loved ones to let them create one last memory with them.
51-year-old Kim Jung-soo from South Korea wept as he appeared on the second season of the MBC show ‘I Met You.’
He was given the chance to meet the love of his life for one last time after he said that his only wish was to see “even just her shadow.”
After suffering from a serious illness for years, Kim’s wife passed away and he was left to take care of their five children.
Kim could not hold back his tears the moment he entered a virtual house and finally saw his wife.
Trying to fight his tears, Kim asked his wife: “Are you not in pain anymore?”
One of his daughters, Jong-yun, shared how much her father loved their mother, saying: “He would kiss her from time to time when working, when eating, or when watching TV.
“Even when my mother was sick and lost her hair, my father would say that she was pretty and carried her around.” We need to protect this man at all costs.”
Kim’s other daughter, Jong-bin, said: “’It is my last wish,’ he said, that’s why we decided to allow him to meet Mom again.”
The Korean broadcasting company took six months of preparation to make the emotional reunion possible, AsiaOne reported.
They recreated movements and also hired a voice actor to make it sound like Kim’s wife.
In another episode of I Met You, a mother was able to see her 7-year-old daughter who passed away three years ago.
