Captain Sir Tom Moore has reportedly been hospitalized after struggling to breathe months after he helped raise millions for charity.
The 100-year-old war veteran has been praised for his efforts on a global level after helping raise $41 million for the UK’s NHS.
According to the man’s daughter, Hannah, the knighted veteran has now been hospitalized and is being treated for pneumonia and Covid-19.
“I wanted to update everybody that today (Sunday 31st January) my father was admitted to hospital. Over the last few weeks he was being treated for pneumonia and last week tested positive for Covid-19,” she wrote in a statement published on her father’s official Twitter account.
“He was at home with us until today when he needed additional help with his breathing. He is being treated in a ward, although he is not in ICU.”
The daughter went on to praise the medical staff for the “remarkable” care Moore has received in recent weeks.
“The medical care he has received in the last few weeks has been remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford Hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible,” she added.
“We understand that everyone will be wishing him well. We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to.”
Moore helped raise millions for the nation’s healthcare system after starting a fundraiser and finishing one hundred laps around his garden before his 100th birthday despite struggling to walk unaided.
Moved by the veteran’s selfless actions, thousands of people supported the charitable cause and eventually raised over $40 million for the NHS.
