A woman who spent hundreds on treatments for her beloved cat was left heartbroken after the feline tragically died.
23-year-old Dianna Voyatsiz said she bought the kitten, Ghost, on Gumtree. But only weeks after taking the feline home, she was told by a vet that the cat only had days to live.
She has started a petition to change the law to require puppies and kittens to be checked by vets before being sold.
“Without her I am not sure I would have made it through the lockdown,” she said. “There was no cat quite like Ghost and I know no cat will never come near to her.
“Every night she slept on my chest, she was my best friend and the bond we had was irreplaceable.”
But Dianna received heartbreaking news when she took Ghost to a vet for routine vaccinations.
“I was told that she had a heart murmur and that her stomach was full of fluid – I thought I was just overfeeding her. But the vet said it was a rare condition that was beyond his expertise.”
Despite spending hundreds of pounds on examinations, various remedies and different vet appointments, Diana was told that her pet only had two days to live.
“She was an angel, and I know she’s gone to help others now – that’s why she left so suddenly,” she expressed. “She helped me through my health and I can’t thank her enough for that.
“I know now she is free and no longer in pain and the fact we will meet again is the only way I am staying strong.”
Dianna has started a petition to try and stymie unregistered breeders who have taken advances of the increase in demand for kittens and puppies during lockdown.
Her campaign for ‘Ghost’s Law’ seeking to ensure that animals are vaccinated by a vet before being sold has gained more than 7,000 signatures.
“I have started a petition to change the law to require all kittens to be checked before they are sold,” Dianna said.
“I was unable to save Ghost, but I would like to think I would be able to save other kittens, by giving them the best start to life and prevent backyard breeders from selling sick kittens.”
