On a family vacation that was supposed to celebrate a birthday, it goes wrong in a matter of seconds as their vehicle is crushed by a 175-foot-tall redwood tree, killing the parents inside and leaving the children behind.
Highway 199 in Del Norte County is an area that is known for its humongous redwood trees. It was unlucky of them to witness the moment when one tree fell over, toppling on top of their car which crushed the parents instantaneously.
For the case to be brought up to the public was rare, since the deaths of the parents are most likely from natural causes.
Brandy Gonzales, CHP public information officer, states that “It’s the most unusual incident I’ve seen in my 19-year career. We’re very prone to Mother Nature in this area. We do have trees come across lanes sometimes, and we think, ‘Luckily it didn’t hurt anybody.
'”
Her statement did not apply to this family, for it had resulted in a tragic fate. The timing of the car to be under the redwood tree was by coincidence, but its aftermath for the kids remains a scar towards the five of them, now being orphaned from the impact.
The Gofundme has been set up, raising $200,000 (as of today) out of the $500,000 goal that is set. Set by Amanda Maffei, the description states: “The tragedy of this accident makes it difficult to accept as real.
These 5 children are now left without parents and are facing a lifetime of expenses. Thank you for your consideration, support, and condolences during this unbelievable time.”
The trauma that will grow within the children cannot be imagined and is unfathomable. The campaign also describes the family dynamics between the members, describing them as “tight-knit,” and the children are slowly coming to terms with what happened to their parents.
