New reports have revealed that cops have been called to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s mansion in California nine times since July last year.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has responded to calls listed as property crimes, phone requests, and alarm activations since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved into their Montecito mansion with their son, Archie.
The data was released after Harry and Meghan shared their security fears in their tell-all Oprah interview.
In July last year, officers were called four times after the couple moved from Los Angeles to Montecito. One report is labeled as a phone request while others are logged ‘alarm activations.’
All happened in the early hours of the morning.
37-year-old Nickolas Brooks from Ohio was initially let off with a warning but when he returned to the property on Boxing Day, he was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor trespassing.
“I don’t know why I went to their place, that’s kind of where I ended up. I drove across the country – I know it’s crazy,” Brooks said.
“I’ve been told to stay away and that I’m never allowed back there but I don’t have to appear in court. I was in jail for a night and they told me to stay away in future.”
Meghan and Harry’s security arrangements made headlines after their bombshell interview with Oprah.
The former actress said that she sent letters pleading with her husband’s family not to take away his personal protection officers and warned that he was facing death threats.
She also claimed that the decision not to make Archie a prince meant he would not receive police protection.
However, police protection is understood to have been removed when they stepped down as working royals.
Former chief superintendent Dai Davies said he was ‘gobsmacked’ that the couple expected British taxpayers to pay £4million a year.
“It was utterly unrealistic to think they could continue to have their royal protection team working in America – in fact it would have put their [police] lives at risk,” he said.
