Parents who unexpectedly gave birth while abroad were told by the hospital to pay for the expensive bill before they would be allowed to take their baby home.
26-year-old Azhar Saleem, who is a British, and his wife, 23-year-old Syeda Khola Adnan, are a couple who were staying in Dubai while the woman was waiting for her visa when she unexpectedly gave birth.
Their baby daughter was born 23 weeks prematurely and had to remain in the hospital for treatment for a prolonged time, adding up to the total bill which quickly exceeded $130,000.
As the heartbroken parents revealed, the hospital ordered them to pay the bill before they would be allowed to take their baby back home to Britain.
In addition, Azhar and Syeda are worried that the bill will exceed $200,000, as baby Amal remains in critical condition as of this writing.
According to the couple, they became pregnant in January and were planning on moving to the UK as soon as Syeda’s visa gets approved. Unexpectedly, however, the woman gave birth 23 weeks prematurely.
“We really need help to bring my baby home, any kind of help would be appreciated. You don’t realize the situations you can find yourself in until you find yourself in them,” the couple wrote on GoFundMe where they are attempting to raise funds to pay for the expensive hospital bill.
“I have never thought of asking for help before in my life, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and your pride and do everything you can to bring your loved ones, in this instance our baby home.
“Neither me or my husband have that sort of money to pay for the bill. As we recently got married and applied for my UK visa we are still paying off loans that we took for that and I do not work.”
