A mother from Arkansas claims her daughter was kicked out of His Kids Learning Center in Russelville for wearing BLM t-shirts.
Deval Brockman said she sent her 6-year-old daughter Journei to the Christian daycare center only to get a complaint because of the child’s ‘racist’ tops.
Journei was wearing a white t-shirt with words that read: “All lives can’t matter until black lives matter.”
In an interview with local news station KARK 4, Brockman said: “She was like, ‘I don’t like it, I don’t agree with it, and I would prefer it if you didn’t send her to school in it again.’”
The frustrated mother said she raised the issue with state officials who said her daughter could keep on wearing the shirts.
The next day, she sent her daughter back to the school in another shirt with a fist in the back but when she picked her up in the afternoon, she was told Journei could no longer enter the premises.
In another interview with New York Daily News, Brockman said: “I was really upset. It’s a T-shirt! There’s no profanity. It’s just stating the truth, stating facts.”
The daycare center officials told her the tops were ‘racist’ and that she was teaching her daughter that color exists.
“Well there is color. If they can’t see that, they’ll never understand. But it’s something they need to know,” the mother added.
The school’s director Patricia Brown said in a statement to KARK 4: “We feel a childcare environment is not a place for a parent’s political views to be addressed or played out, regardless of race.”
The mother has argued that the shirts are not political but pertains to daily life.
“It’s all over the news. Right is right and wrong is wrong,” she expressed. “If you’re going to a Christian led daycare, let’s abide by the bible then.”
Brockman said her daughter became upset when she found out that she could no longer go back to the school and play with her friends.
