This is a heartwarming moment a teen with Down Syndrome broke down in tears while telling her dad that she got accepted to her school’s dance team.
When 14-year-old Bree Cox from Murray in Utah found out that she earned a spot on her school’s dance team, she was initially very calm.
But when she called her dad that night to deliver the good news, her strong emotions finally came through.
It was a very touching moment as Bree was crying tears of joy. She was so happy and so proud of herself.
Bree has loved dancing since she was a kid and is now following her sisters’ footsteps by being a member of the school’s dance team.
Her mother thinks her victory can be a step towards being more understanding and accepting towards people with disabilities.
Her mother, Kecia Cox, told PEOPLE: “You fight for your kids with special needs every day, to some degree, because you’re their voice. So when these little victories happen, you’re like, ‘Okay, it’s worth it. They’re seen by somebody and they’re valued.’”
“She doesn’t like to talk about it, but she knows that she’s different and has different struggles,” Kecia continued. “For her to have this moment where she didn’t feel different was worth it all for us. And the fact that she could do it with her sister is huge.”
The video of Bree crying happy tears was liked more than 63,000 times and many revealed they got teary-eyed too.
“Well done, I am sooooo happy for you. I had a sister with downs, I loved her to the core, the most beautiful sister I had, also she in her way taught me so much in life, so keep going princess,” one person commented.
“Way to go young lady. You are an inspiration to others,” another wrote.
