Social media users have ridiculed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after it was claimed that the couple did not want their son Archie to have the Earl of Dumbarton title.
According to the claims, Harry and Meghan rejected the title for their firstborn as it contained the word ‘dumb’ and they feared that their son might be bullied or mocked because of it.
But others were furious on behalf of the residents of Dumbarton in Scotland, arguing it is ‘insulting’ to the small town’s people.
According to the Telegraph, Harry and Meghan feared their son might be bullied and mocked because of the title.
The couple were given the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Earl and Countess of Dumbarton, and Baron and Baroness Kilkeel by the Queen they tied the knot. But they are now going by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Sources told the Telegraph that Meghan and Harry were not keen on taking the Earl of Dumbarton for their son Archie because it has the word ‘dumb’ and they were ‘worried about how that might look.’
A source reportedly told the Telegraph: “It wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls. It also bothered Harry.”
The newspaper also reported that sources close to the couple claim the Sussexes ‘never raised an issue’ about their son not being made a prince.
This comes after reports suggested that Prince Charles had told Harry and Meghan that Archie would not be called a prince when he ascends to the throne as he plans to slim-down the number of ‘front-line’ royals.
