On Saturday night, the crowd went wild at UFC 264 in Las Vegas when former US President Donald J Trump made a surprise appearance at the McGregor-Poirier fight.
The Ex-POTUS was greeted with mixed reactions from the people at the T-Mobile Arena, with some applauding and cheering, while others are booing.
However, a video uploaded on Twitter shows that the majority of the crowd appears enthusiastic.
Chants of ‘USA’ were heard as Trump entered and walked toward the cage-side seats next to the Octagon.
The former president received a warmer welcome compared to his last UFC appearance in 2019 when Trump was heavily booed by crowds as he walks into the arena at Madison Square Garden.
According to federal records, it revealed the 2019 trip — when he was still president — cost taxpayers a whopping $250,000 after the Secret Service was only given a week’s notice about his attendance at the UFC event that year.
On Friday, UFC President Dana White announced that Donald Trump would appear at the main event.
However, Trump’s visit to Las Vegas was cut short as he is scheduled to appear and speak at the CPAC conference in Dallas on Sunday.
Meanwhile, UFC 264’s main event ended quickly when McGregor broke his ankle at the end of round one, leaving the Irish fighter in pain and unable to continue.
The fight was immediately stopped after the first-round bell when McGregor (22-6) was unable to get up. He never stood up after falling to the canvas after a final-minute blow by Poirier (28-6), who will get the UFC’s next lightweight title shot.
Poirier revealed that he thought his opponent’s leg broke when he checked one of McGregor’s kicks earlier in the fight.
“I felt something, for sure,” Poirier said. “He fractured it on one of the kicks at the beginning of the fight, and then he broke it.”
Poirier was largely in control during the opening round, fending off McGregor’s kicks and landing several strikes before getting control over the Irishman on the mat.
After a long stretch of punches and elbows, Poirier knocked his nemesis down one last time – and McGregor’s ankle bent horrifically as he fell to the ground.
Medics were immediately called into the cage to check on McGregor and it was clear that he could not continue leaving the referee Herb Dean to declare a stop to the fight.
McGregor was obviously infuriated about his loss before he was carried out from the Octagon.
“This is not over!” McGregor shouted.
