A man inserted a 20cm-long eel up his bum as he believed that the animal would cure his constipation.

According to the Global Times, the unnamed man from China had been struggling with a painful stomach problem and tried to treat it by putting a live eel inside his body.

He said that he had heard about the ‘folk remedy’ but explained that he immediately realized how such rumors can cause the world a lot of problems.

The eel reportedly swam up to his colon and pierced his abdomen but he was too embarrassed to seek medical attention.

When the pain became extremely agonizing, he finally decided to go to a nearby hospital where doctors were left shocked to find the eel still alive inside him.

Doctors also said that his condition could’ve been much worse if he did not go to a hospital right away as he could have suffered hemolysis and died.

This is not the first time someone tried to cure digestive problems with an eel.

Last year, a man in his 50s nearly lost his life after he inserted a 40-centimeter eel inside his bum.

According to reports, he explained that he was trying to cure his constipation but developed abdominal pains from the wriggling animal instead.

Dr. Lie told Chinese media at that time: “We suspected that there was a foreign object in his abdominal cavity from a CT scan. But we couldn’t tell where it came from.”

“It had completely entered the abdominal cavity and already been dead,” Dr. Li added. “Because it was a live eel, the possibility of death is very high if the surgery was not done timely.”

The eel was already dead by the time surgeons removed it from the patient’s body.
