A transgender woman was caught on camera confronting a store owner who displayed an “offensive” anti-trans sign at his shop.
The incident took place in Aberdeen, Washington, where a transgender woman named Tiesa Meskis got involved in a verbal fight with the Sucher & Sons Star Wars Shop owner, Don Sucher.
The councilwoman reportedly confronted the man after he displayed a sign mocking trans people in his shop.
“If you are born with a d**k, you are not a chick,” the sign reads.
Calling out the shop owner for his sign, Meskis called the man’s statement bull**** as she insisted that “trans women are women.”
Responding, Sucher called the woman nuts. “I’m telling you that as a man, that’s bulls**t,” he said.
As King 5 reported, the store owner told them that he was simply practicing his freedom of speech through the use of the controversial sign at his shop. He also insisted that visitors who don’t agree with his views are welcome to leave.
Meskis, however, hit back at Sucher and called his sign “demeaning” and “dismissive.”
“What he wrote there was so demeaning and so dismissive of who I am, who any trans woman is,” she said in an interview with the Washington Examiner.
“We are people. We are who we are, and we all want to be accepted in our community.”
Following the quarrel, both Meskis and Sucher claimed they have received lots of support from the community.
While Sucher said that the fans of his store still like the photo of his controversial sign, Meskis suggested that she too received lots of support. Though she acknowledged the store owner’s right to express himself, she said she hoped he would do so without being so offensive to trans people.
