A 14-year-old boy in Australia headbutted his mother after she tried to take his Playstation away.
Britta Hodge said that her son, Logan, has become addicted to online games, and his new obsession is the massively popular battle royal game, Fortnite. The teenager plays all day and all night long, leaving his room only to go to the bathroom or to eat.
The frustrated mom said that Logan headbutted her when she tried to take the console away. Britta explained:
“It’s not as simple as taking the cord away and going, ‘Oh well, bad luck, you haven’t got the internet’.
Because the repercussions from that – angry, aggressive – we’ve had to call the police. I have been headbutted, I’ve had concussions.”
Britta said that her son used to go out with friends and was sporty before she gave her son the PS4 about two years ago.
However, everything changed when he became addicted to games like Ark, Destiny, Call of Duty and Minecraft. His newest addiction is Fortnite, a popular video game with over 125 million players worldwide.
Britta also revealed that Logan’s addiction to gaming has left him unable to go to school.
She told 9Honey: “He says to me, ‘it’s the only thing that gives me happiness…’ He’s engaged in a fake world.”
Britta also added:
“An addiction is an addiction. It doesn’t matter if it’s drugs, sex or online gaming.
It’s chronic. We’ve been to doctors who have said ‘I don’t think we’ve seen such a chronic case’.”
The mom-of-six also said that Logan only socializes with people who are ‘overseas or who have a similar addiction.’
She also tried everything to get her 14-year-old son back to school, including help from professionals, but nothing worked.
Britta wants to raise awareness about online gaming addictions so kids or teenagers in her son’s situation can immediately get the help they need.
