Grimes shares that her son with partner Elon Musk only calls her by her first name, which is Claire.
Claire Elise Boucher, 33, known professionally as Grimes, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer.
Elon Reeve Musk, 50, is an entrepreneur and business magnate. He is the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at SpaceX. CEO and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc. A multibillionaire, he is one of the richest people in the world.
In May 2018, Elon and Grimes revealed that they were dating. In May 2020, Grimes gave birth to their son X Æ A-Xii.
In a recent interview with Vogue, the 33-year-old Canadian singer confessed that her 16-months-old son doesn’t call her “Mom” and the kid doesn’t call her “Mommy” or “Mama,” either.
The 33-year-old opened about how motherhood has affected her in a video with Vogue while she got ready for the Met Gala on 13 September. The singer described becoming a mother as her own “rebirth” and also revealed that she doesn’t “identify” with the label of being a mother.
“I think having a baby was a big rebirth for me, like artistically,” Grimes said in the clip. “Being a mother feels weird to say. For some reason, I don’t identify with that word. He says Claire, but he doesn’t say, Mama.”
“Maybe he like, can sense my distaste for the word “mother”, she continued. “Which, I don’t even know why I have a distaste for it, because I respect… I just can’t identify with it, weirdly.”
Grimes and Elon, dated nearly two years before she gave birth to the couple’s son. They made their first public appearance together at the 2018 Met Gala.
Since 2018, Grimes has been in a relationship with technology entrepreneur Elon Musk. They met after discovering on Twitter that they both came up with the same pun relating to Rococo and the thought experiment Roko’s basilisk.
On January 8, 2020, Grimes announced that she was pregnant with her and Elon’s first child together. Grimes gave birth to their son on May 4, 2020, with Elon announcing through Twitter that both Grimes and their baby were doing well.
The couple said they had named the child “X Æ A-12” (pronounced “Ex Ash A Twelve” or “Ex Ay Eye”), although it was reported that the name violated the naming law in California, where the child was born.
On May 24, Grimes announced the name was changed to “X Æ A-Xii”. According to an image of the birth certificate released by TMZ, the letter “X” is the child’s first name, and his middle name is “AE A-XII”. He is Elon’s seventh child.
During an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast the week of X’s birth, the Tesla CEO said: “First of all, my partner is the one who actually mostly came up with the name. She’s great at names.”
The billionaire then explained: “It’s just the letter X and then the Æ is pronounced “Ash”. A-12 is my contribution…. Coolest plane ever. It’s pretty great.”
Further explaining the origin of her son’s name, Grimes had detailed: “X, the unknown variable. Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence) A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.”
Grimes made the comments regarding her son not calling her mom during a “get ready with me” video filmed with Vogue ahead of the Met Gala.
She revealed the inspiration behind her sci-fi dress, complete with a huge sword made from melted down AK-47s.
Grimes arrived at the event wearing a dune-inspired, custom hand-pleated silk gown by Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen, who she says has been “one of her favorites” since her career began.
The nude and black dress featured lightning-bolt shapes that extend upwards toward the neck. Herpen revealed that these were created using liquid silicone before being added to the fabric.
