A wife and husband have tragically died during their trip to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Vickie Fourshee, 69, and John Fourshee, 70, from Kentucky just wanted to celebrate their new milestone by going on a fishing trip on Idaho’s Moyie River.
According to reports, John slipped while crossing a river and Vickie tried to rescue him.
People who witnessed the tragic incident said the couple tried to cross the river in fishing waders when the husband suddenly lost his balance.
Authorities told WKRN that Vickie and John’s friends tried to pull the couple from the water and attempted to revive them.
Andrew O’Neel, Boundary County EMS director, said first responders tried life-saving measures but all their efforts failed.
Speaking to Couer d’Alene – Post Falls Press, O’Neel said: “It was a lot of people trying to help. Sadly they were not successful.”
The couple were loved by many and respected members of the community.
Vickie was a beloved instructional assistant at Trigg County Primary School and just retired in 2014.
In a statement issued to Daily Mail, Trigg County Public Schools said: “She was loved by all of her students and coworkers. She showed her love and support of her students every single day.
“Our hearts and prayers are with John and Vickie’s family during this tragedy.”
The Fourshees, along with John’s brothers, were owners of the Fourshee Building Supply.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on social media, the company said: “As many of you may have heard we have experienced an enormous tragedy here at Fourshee Building Supply.
John Fourshee and his wife Vickie died Saturday morning in a fishing accident while on vacation in Idaho. John was a partner in Fourshee Building Supply along with his brothers Anthony and Paul. You will remember John as the HVAC installer and service man.”
Others who knew the couple also offered their condolences to the family, with one saying the entire family is comprised of ‘great people’ and another referred to John as a ‘very good man.’
